By my friend's strong urging, I was persuaded to open a blog to express the daily sort of trivialities occurring in my life that some people *might* be interested in reading up. And whatever thoughts my neurons had been busy rubbing together that I thought might be interesting share. I'll try to make blogging a weekly habit, while at the same time allowing it to become a chore since I believe strongly that if there is nothing left to say, it is best left unsaid.
That said, its already been 3 weeks since I moved into Shanghai to stay for a year or even more depending if I could find a job. More or less, I have already adapted to the living lifestyle here, though I still do not yet have many opportunities to create any form of connection with the locals. This could be the failure to understand their culture completely, or my lack of complete capability in expressing myself in fluent Mandarin. Furthermore, surprisingly, the people are are relatively guarded with their sense of openness and trust with strangers. For instance, being thanked by another appeared to be an alien concept for them.
Anyway, crossing fingers that in the coming months I am able to progressively find myself integrated into the society here in areas such as making friends, finding new hobbies and learning to appreciate what is given in Shanghai.
Otherwise this will be a very long year for me.
